I was inspired by the Japanese mending stitch "Sashiko" when I painted this dish. These pieces are impactful to the sight and have a delightful aesthetic, small and cute.
Creating handmade porcelain involves several steps. The porcelain is first shaped by hand and then left to dry for one to two weeks, depending on the piece's size and complexity. The dried piece undergoes bisque firing at approximately 1,000°C (1,832°F), making it durable but still porous. Afterward, the piece is glazed and subjected to a final firing at around 1,300°C (2,372°F), resulting in a strong, translucent finish.
